Women that don’t want to have children
Nowadays, more and more women choose not to have kids, but they aren’t always taken seriously.
Women at a certain age are still expected to have a baby and be married. However, some may disagree, and society still has difficulty accepting this and comments like: “You’ll eventually change your mind”; “Just wait till your biological clock starts ticking, and you feel like your out of time”; or “Wait until the maternal instincts to quick in” are still very common.
In my experience as a psychologist, we need to address this big blue elephant in the middle of the room. So many women feel inadequate for not wanting to have children as if their choice (that it is their choice) when spoken aloud is blasphemy, and they shouldn’t feel like that.
Women should feel safe to voice their own choices without fearing a reprimand. Unfortunately, some are labeled as selfish or weird. They are stigmatized, and others can even consider that they aren’t living a fulfilled and happy life (which may not be true). For numerous reasons, many women may not feel that motherhood is something they want in their lives, and this decision should be respected.
From an early age, women usually already have expectations about having (or not) children. To some, their life goals may change. To others, this decision may be crystal clear…
